Crowclaw Clouds shifted across the night sky as a medium sized black tom moved quietly on the grass. It was midnight, the tom's favorite time. Everyone was quiet and everything was right. Nothing was screeching from pain and no one would glare at him as if he was an intruder. Not that he cared, Bloodclan still gave him shelter and food while he gave them strength. It was a good trade for his clan for he caught all his food and they only gave him shelter while he gave them food and fought for them. Now if he became older and needed to retire.. who knew what they would do to him.. he would be no use then...
Looking behind him the black tom say the small shape of his new apprentice behind him. The youngster was probably tired, very tired. Just yesterday the new apprentice would have been sleeping in the nursery, snuggled up to his mother. But now.. now.. the poor tom was training with his mentor at midnight. At MIDNIGHT! What freak trained his poor apprentice at midnight? He must thank Starclan that Stormstar knew nothing of this or he really would be banished.
"Come on Blazingpaw!!!" The senior warrior whispered behind him. It was getting close to dawn and they hadn't even trained yet. Pretty soon his clan mates would notice them gone but he could lie and say: 'we were out for an early hunting patrol!' The other warriors would probably just sneer and whisper to each other that he was trying to be a 'goody two shoes' and walk away. It used to hurt but.. the black tom had heard it a thousand times and learned to block their harsh words out. Now he was known as Crowclaw the Mysterious because he never showed his feelings.
All of a sudden a loud boom reached Crowclaw's ears and pain pricked his paws. "Oh Great Starclan.." He cursed loudly, his eyes darting around the clearing. It was the training hollow and he had almost missed it if it hadn't been for that log beneath his paws. It would've been embrassing if he had kept walking and if he had kept walking.. he would've run into the Skyclan border..

Blazingpaw was excited to be out of the camp and to be able to see the world close up. He smiled and looked around. Already his paws were aching and his smile was vanishing. He was getting tired but he didn't want to show it in front of his strange mentor. He was finally able to train and he didn't want to ruin it from his lack of strength to continue. He looked around him at the darkness that swallowed up the forest around him. It was late and he quietly supressed a large yawn. His head was hanging low and his paws were stumbling in the darkness. He could barely make out a faint outline of Crowclaw, his mentor. His black pelt almost hid him completely from view but Blazingpaw's young, keen eyes enabled him to slightly see the reasuring features of his mentor. Blazingpaw didn't know where they were going, just that they were going to train. Whether it was some midnight hunting or midnight training, he was going to try his hardest. He had been looking forward to this day since he could first open his eyes. He had dreamed of training for so long, it didn't seem possible that today, it was finally going to happen. So many hopes and dreams...
Briskly trying to catch up to Crowclaw, Blazingpaw stumbled blindly on, barely seeing the ground ahead of him. After what seemed like forever, Blazingpaw accidently walked right into a large log. When he squinted, he could make out the form of Crowclaw right beside him. "So, what are we doing today... or rather, tonight?" Blazingpaw asked inquiringly but exhaustion was evident in his voice.

Crowclaw Crowclaw glanced down at his apprentice with surprise. Blazingpaw was actually yawning! Of course the first time he came out training at night time with his mentor he was tired but.. this cat was actually showing his emotions! Didn't Blazingpaw realize that showing emotions was a sign of weakness?? He'd have to teach the poor idoitic apprentice this. This skill is how Crowclaw had become such a grand warrior, or so he thought. Really not showing any concern for his clan mates wasn't a great plan. You see, his clan mates felt like they couldn't trust him and that he could turn on him any time. It was just by luck he had been given an apprentice. But if Stormstar found out where they were.. he would be distrusted forever.
Looking down at his apprentice, Crowclaw could see Blazingpaw had tripped over the same log that he had tripped over. I'm as clumsy as a new apprentice!! He thought to himself, trying to keep his feeling of scorn inside of him. Crowclaw had been trained by his abusive mentor to master the sense of smell that most cats would never top in their lives but now he was as clumbsy as his new apprentice! Boy, Colddeath would have beaten him silly if he was here. 'you must concentrate Crowpaw!' His mentor had said. 'if you do not pay attension... you might find yourself dead.. whether by an attacker or by me..!' Those words had frightened poor Crowclaw when he was an apprentice. It made him look behind his shoulder every time he heard a sound for many many moons.
"First of all.." Crowclaw said, blinking at his apprentice. "You need to NEVER show your REAL emotions!" He stared blankly at the cat before him. "Like that.. emotions are a sign of weakness! You must never show what you really feel. The enemy will take advantage of that.. my mentor taught me that so now I will teach you.. and so on and so on."

Blazingpaw didn't understand. His mommy, now dead, had once told him to always show his real emotions so others knew what to say next from his reaction. It could be true when facing a terrible enemy, but to friends? All this apprentice stuff didn't make sense to him yet. It would take moons if he ever learned it... if he did; especially with his mentor. Looking slowly up at Crowclaw, Blazingpaw wondered if he should say something about the emotion thing and showing it. He decided not to because he wanted to be the best apprentice his clan had ever seen and to get there, he couldn't argue or fight over silly stuff his mentor was probably right in.
Sighing deeply, Blazingpaw fought back the urge to make some obnoxious retort. He was relieved when a small mouse poked it's head out of a hole before him. Noisily jumping, Blazingpaw pounced. He was quick enough, but too noisy and he missed the spot completely. Looking at his mentor in shame, he turned around. He didn't even know what they were going to do. What if they were supposed to battle train and he'd scared off precious prey? Ashamed, Blazingpaw averted his eyes from his mentor's hard stare. "What we doin' today?" Getting excited again, he bounced up and down. His young heart mended quickly from embarassment.

Crowclaw Get of of my Back! And into my game! Get out of my way!! Or give me your best shot!
Crowclaw looked down at his apprentice, wanting more than anything to show amusment. But that would show weakness! 'Weakness? You Twit!! He's just a little apprentice!' A voice whispered in his head but Crowclaw ignored him. "Blazingpaw.. YOU NEVER show YOUR emotions!" The black tom meowed sternly and started to walk away. 'why Crowclaw? You screamed in pure hatred at that tiny log! You hippocrite!' The voice continued angrly. "It was a BIG log..." Crowclaw muttered quietly. The voice snorted and was quiet for a long time.
"Come on Blazingpaw!" The black mentor called worriedly. "We are going to learn how to battle train today!" He whirled around so he could make sure Blazingpaw was following. "Unless you'd like to do something else!" Crowclaw mewed grumpily. 'Nice job keeping in your emotions,' the voice in the mentor's head growled. Crowclaw growled and jumped up on the log he had tripped over minutes before. "Now... Blazingpaw.. if an attacker, like me, was about to jump onto you... what would you do.. and you'd better think fast little apprentice!" Just before his last sentence came out the black tom leaped into the air infront of Blazingpaw, claws sheathed. "Think Blazingpaw... think!"
You know how it's going to be! get off of my back!

Blazingpaw wasn't expecting this at all. Did Blazingpaw say something wrong? Everyone around camp showed their emotions, so why shouldn't he? Anger flared up in Blazingpaw. He wanted to attack his mentor, but his true, kind heart broke through that he continued to stand quietly. When Crowclaw jumped at him, Blazingpaw felt like he was being squished like a bug between a kit's paw and the ground. The was so sudden and so much, Blazingpaw's brittle bones creaked under the weight. "Get off me!!" Trying to struggle out from under his mentor's body, He batted harmlessly at Crowclaw. He didn't quite know he should sheath his paws, so he had his long claws extended out all the way. They weren't toughened up, but they were sharp, and they hit directly at Crowclaws back end, under his tail. Blazingpaw didn't mean for that, it just sort if happened.
Sorry it's short, for some reason I have no muse for this particular thread

Crowclaw Get of of my Back! And into my game! Get out of my way!! Or give me your best shot! Crowclaw felt pain in his tail and tried to hold back a yelp. He whirled around and looked at his apprentice. "Congrads Blazingpaw... that's exactly what you do.." He said coldly and turned his back on his apprentice. What a stupid runt.. Crowclaw thought to himself as he walked. He actually thought I'd kill him! I should've taught him to be smart before I trained him. Blazingpaw will be worseless in battle.. he won't know who is in his clan and who isn't! Poor little apprentice! The dark black warrior turned to his apprentice, fire still burning in his eyes. "I can't believe you'd think I'd attack you.. you stupid badger butt!," Crowclaw snarled. "I am not a evil cat! I work hard for my clan just like you should! Know who your enemies are Blazingpaw.. always use your brain! If you have one.." Crowclaw stalked off once more but shouted a couple of more things at his apprentice. "In training sessions you MUST sheath your claws... but in battle.. if you don't unsheath them.. heh.. you might find yourself in Starclan! With your ancestors.." Those words were the same as the ones that Cold-death had used withthe black tom. He had once told Crowclaw to tell his apprentice the same words because it was a tradition that couldn't be broken and Crowclaw had no intension of breaking it. Even if there was no such thing as cruses, the black tom knew that something bad would happen to him if he broke it. "Ok.. Blazingpaw.." Crowclaw mewed at his apprentice as he turned around. "This time we will learn the curl.. are you up for it..?" You know how it's going to be! get off of my back!

Frustation hit Blazingpaw. Why did his mentor have to scold him like that? Wasn't he doing what he should? His mentor could have hurt him! It was needed for him to unsheathe his claws! Blazingpaw had a sudden dislike for his mentor. Not being allowed to show emotions? What was wrong with this mouse brain! His mentor even had bad language! What was he supposed to do? Everyone knew they couldn't trust this cat, why should he? Waves of anger swept off of him. They were so strong, they could almost knock his mentor off his paws. Weighing possiblities in his mind, he decided not to be a mouse, and go through with this weird training session. He'd never heard of his denmates training at night.
He didn't want to train, he wanted to sleep. What if he got in trouble for being so tired he couldn't do anything? "I want to go back to camp! I don't wanna train! Just take me back! Right now!" Sweet, young Blazingpaw wished he had been given a different mentor...
